Chandy C. – Opened his horizons

Mr. Davis,

I must thank you so much for writing the book series, Dragons in our Midst and Oracles of Fire.  My oldest son, Jacob, 14yrs, loves your books and has read the series several times.  He so enjoyed these books that he would tell his little brother, Sam, all about them.  His brother, who is now 12, asked to read them.  I wasn’t sure he would be able to follow along.  Sam didn’t really like reading and would only read anything around a third grade level (ever hear of “Horrible Harry” or “Flat Stanley”?) that was as difficult as he would read.  After beginning your books he has become a little bookworm.  He is now on the final book of both the series.  He never leaves home without the book and will even read it over electronics.  I am amazed and overjoyed!!

I just wanted to thank you.  I homeschool my kids and was so worried that Sam would never love reading.  Your series has changed that and has opened his horizons to other things.

Thank you so, so much for creating a book that my son loves that is also spiritually ok for him to read.

Megan F. – So inspiring

Thank you for all you do. The books you write are so inspiring and they have helped me immensely grow in my faith. I’m on your last book of the Oracles of Fire series. You make your words work for you and you place them beautifully to create stories that make me laugh with Billy, cry with Bonnie and Sapphira and love the Savior that we all share. Please keep doing what you’re doing because I know for a fact that I’m not the only one these words will have a deep impact on.

Thank you for giving your gifts back to the Giver,

Arlene M. – I’m a stronger person

I finished reading your book last night and wanted to let you know how meaningful it was to me.  So much of Tabitha reminded me of my granddaughter.  Although Hannah didn’t have visions to the extent of Tabitha, she did have a very intimate relationship with Jesus and wanted everyone to have a “saving” experience so they would be with her in Heaven some day.  Her concern always was for other people even when she was really sick in the hospital.  She testified of God’s love through everything she did until her life here on earth ended.  Even now in her resurrected life, her spirit continues to draw people closer to the Lord.

There is so much depth in your novel at an emotional level as well as from a Christian standpoint, I have to think that you must have had a personal experience that you drew on to write it.  Whether or not that’s the case, your novel definitely touches the heart and soul of what it’s like to lose a child and still trust God for knowing best.  I’m a stronger person for having read it.  God is truly awesome when we let Him be.

God Bless!

Arlene

Christina W. – Immersing, complex, powerful

Mr. Davis
First, I just wanted to write and tell you how much my brother and I love your books. They are so beautiful and inspiring! I have all three of your current series and can’t wait for the next! Reading your books was one of my earliest forays into the fantasy genre – along with C.S. Lewis and Donita K. Paul. Now I am hopelessly addicted to fantasy. My brother is too. He often comes up to me asking – “So, When is the next Bryan Davis book coming out?”.
The both of us together have read DIOM, OOF, and Echoes over at least three dozen times. Your books have never left the “Honor spot” on my bookshelf since the day I got them. You have been our number #1 favorite author since the night I got my first copy of Raising Dragons in the nearby Pathways Christian book store. I told my brother to read it when I was done. He read it overnight and almost as soon as he had closed the book he was asking when I would be buying the rest. Which was really good coming from him. He never really liked to read much at all up until then.
The people I have heard say that you are as good, or almost as good as Lewis and Tolkien are so wrong. Your books beat theirs by far. I don’t think I have ever read another author’s work that was so immersing, complex, or powerful as yours. It is also wonderful to find an author who’s writing is pure and not tainted with questionable material. The first fantasy series I ever read was a non-christian one. That series almost put me off fantasy forever. I’m glad I didn’t or I might have missed out on a lot of wonderful books.
Thanks for your time,
Christina

Quanah W. – I cried my heart out

I just finished “The Bones of Makaidos” and just wanted you to know that your books have amazed me, encouraged me, and most of all helped me in my walk with Christ. I cried my heart out at the end! I have never cried that much for any other book or movie! It was so sad and happy and just all over amazing!

I read the “Oracles of Fire” fire books first because I didn’t know about the other series and can not wait to read them! Thank you so much!

Sarah B. – Favorite Author

I just want to express how much I enjoy your books. If someone asks me who my favorite author is, I immediately answer ‘Bryan Davis’. Your Dragons in Our Midst and Oracles of Fire series had me gripped the entire time. I laughed, cried, and felt every emotion with the characters you wrote while experiencing every scene as vividly as if it were really happening. Even though I’m really an artist at heart, your books have inspired me to write my own stories. They hardly compare, but then again, I’m just starting. Also, I’m always buying extra copies of your books to give as gifts. Just today I gave Raising Dragons to a new friend of mine as a Christmas present! Your books are so good, that every time I let someone borrow my copies, they usually go out and buy them for themselves!

Right now, I’m working on getting my local library to buy them. I hope they will!

Lastly, I want to thank you for the great influence you are. Your books have consistently turned my eyes toward Jesus, and have done so for my friends as well.

Thank you!

Gina G. and Emily K. – God’s presence

Dear Bryan Davis,

Hello! My name is Gina. My best friend Emily (known as “Anthozil Warrior” on your forums) and I are huge fans of your Dragons in our Midst and Oracles of Fire books. I discovered them at my local Christian bookstore two or three years ago, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I shared them with Emily, and now the two of us are obsessed together. We can’t wait to read Starlighter in the spring!

We met at our Church’s youth group, and once we discovered how much we had in common, we became best friends very quickly. In addition to being fans of the fantasy genre, we are both writers. I’m very devoted to my current project, a fantasy novel – the first part of a trilogy. I’ve just finished with my first draft, and now I’m working on editing. As of now, my novel is way too long. I’m still trying to figure out what parts to cut and what to keep. I know that the publishing industry is very competitive as of late, so I’d appreciate any advice you’d be able to give us aspiring writers.

Your books have made huge impacts in our lives, and we’d like to thank you for writing a story so inspiring. I can read it over and over again, but the thrilling plot and meaning never gets old. Emily and I have tons of inside jokes involving DIOM, including oversize backpacks and alternate ways of heating up Poptarts. I find myself able to relate to your characters, which is really rare in the fantasy genre. And, of course, God’s presence in your books makes them better than anything you’d find at Barnes and Noble.

Once again, thank you for being a big inspiration to us.

Emmaline K. – A higher standard

Your books, Dragons In Our Midst and Oracles Of Fire, have been such a blessing to me. In particular they have made me want a higher standard for the man I marry, a standard that Christ would want the most for me. They have made me want Jesus to be the most outstanding quality him, even at the sacrifice of other physical qualities or talents that I may want. So thank you for your advice and guidance. May God continue to bless you in your writing.

Angela B. – God-given talent

I am a homeschool mom of 5 children ages 6-14.  I just wanted to write you to tell you a little story that I think you may appreciate.  My daughter Briana (age 14) is your biggest fan!  She has read both of your series, Dragons in Our Midst and, the Oracles of Fire (very quickly I may add). Briana has gotten all of her friends hooked on both series as well as her 11 year old brother.

She has been UNpatiently  waiting for your Bones  book for what seems like forever.  We had heard (I’m not sure by who, or where) that It was to be out by Feb.  09, so of course, whenever we were in the area of the Christian book store (Florence, KY), we would take a peek to see if it was there.  Eventually, someone there told us, not feb. but by the end of March it would be in.  It was nearing the end of March when we stopped in again.  This time when we asked for your book, the nice young man that was helping me said “The author of that book is coming in for a book signing sometime soon.  Would you like me to go check when that will be happening?”

Well, my daughter, who is the quietest little thing ever, just about went crazy at the thought of meeting you and getting her books signed by you.  The thing that makes this story so interesting is that in November, my daughter was in a piano recital, and for the pamphlet that told a little bit about each pianist, the children had to answer the question “ If you could have anybody in the whole world over for Christmas, who would it be?”  When all the other children answered, the president, famous movie stars, kings and queens, Briana’s response was, “Bryan Davis, the author of my favorite books.”  Now, the sad part of the story.  When the young man returned from checking out when you’d be in the store, he said, “you’re going to hate me!!! ( He said this do to our over –the- top excitement he experienced when he told us you were coming)  Mr. Davis was just here last Wed. …You hate me don’t you!”   You were there just 4 days earlier!!!  Well, My daughter and I left the bookstore without your book – it hadn’t come in yet- and devastated at the thought of missing you by only 4 days.

I just thought that you may like to know just how much you are thought of by this young reader.  I know that if someone mentioned my name as the one person that they wanted to meet more than anything, I would be thrilled.  Keep the books coming and, anytime that you are in the Northern Kentucky area, please e-mail me if at all possible.  We will keep checking with our local bookstore and on your website also.  I hope this letter uplift you and  keep you using your God-given talent to reach out to people of all ages.

Emma S. – A fire in my heart

Dear Mr. Davis,

I just wanted to thank you for writing the Dragons in our Midst books and the Oracles of Fire books. They have really impacted my life, and showed me that no matter what happens God is ALWAYS there with me. It’s so hard to find books these days that are fantasy or fictional but yet encourage you in your walk with God. In Enoch’s Ghost in the chapter The Lake of Fire, I started crying because I have friends and relatives that are not Christians and I always knew that they would go to the lake of fire if the didn’t believe, but after reading that chapter I knew I needed to do more for them, by showing them Christs’ love and praying more fervently for the them to repent and Find Christ. Reading these books has sparked such a fire in my heart to witness to the lost and to trust God with ALL my heart and lean not on my own understanding. I bought both series this summer and I am telling every single one of my friends and cousins to read them.

Thank you so much for writing such wonderful stories that are encouraging people to keep on serving the Lord, even when things get tough!

I can’t wait until heaven, to personally thank you for encouraging me in my walk with Christ.

May God bless you richly!!
Love in Christ Jesus,
Emma Sodergren
