Amazon Customer – A human touch

I have been concurrently reading the Dragons of Starlight and Tales of Starlight as the author suggested and I have not been disappointed. Each tale could stand alone but I have been so involved in the characters that starting at the beginning with book 1 and proceeding through both of the series has only strengthened the bond I have with the characters and the world they live in. Each book has intrigue, struggles, love, and a human touch that is hard to find in other fantasy series. Each character has such strength and depth that I feel their pain, understand their sacrifices, and encourage them through their struggles. This is another series that is hard to put down. I thought Dragons in our Midst was amazing, these two series show that Bryan Davis knows how to create fantasy and captivate readers with mere words. He is a genius at allowing the reader to fully understand what the story is truly about. I can’t wait for the rest of both series. I anxiously await for the brilliance to continue.

Emily E. – A turning point

Mr. Bryan Davis and Miss Amanda Davis,

I am writing to thank you for the books that you signed for me—especially Diviner and Precisely Terminated, which I know were a gift from you. My dad told me today that he emailed you to ask where he could get signed books some weeks ago, and also to tell you how much your workshop at Life-Point Church, Vancouver, meant to us. I sincerely believe that God has called me to be an author, and I appreciate the time you took to share what you have learned. Your advice was much-needed and inspiring.

I would also like you to know that three or four years ago I hit some roadblocks in Life, and hearing both of you speak that night about your faith was a turning point for me.

Your books have made a tremendous impact in my walk with God. Dragons in our Midst, Oracles of Fire, and Dragons of Starlight stand apart from most teen fiction, and I can hardly wait to read the Cantral Chronicles. 🙂

Enoch’s Ghost touches me in a special way that no other book has, chiefly because of the character Ashley Stalworth. Bonnie is the ultimate role model and I admire her child-like faith in Christ Jesus, but the character I felt I could relate to the most was—and is—Ashley. She embodied my own insecurities despite my Christian faith and, admittedly, my deep-seated fear of Hell’s fiery embrace, something that even my parents had difficulty understanding. Her path to salvation was a thought-provoking read, and I remember having difficulty facing some of the truths it put in front of me. Enoch’s Ghost prompted me to ask God for revelation, and there were times that I had to put the book down and let my eyes water; they were good tears. Your books have been an amazing blessing to me.

Thank you again for the books: it was the gift that meant the most to me this Christmas!

May God bless you and your family this new year….

Elise R. – Truly touch the heart

Mr. Davis,

I just wanted to tell you how much I have enjoyed your books- Dragons in our Midst, Oracles of Fire, and now Children of the Bard.

I really appreciate good, christian fantasy. It is all I read now, because there is so much other goop that is out there, but I wanted to say thank you. Your characters, especially Bonnie, have encouraged me in my faith, to press on when hope is lost, and to always look for the Light. Thank you so much. You write with the power and love of God, seeping through every word to comfort, cheer, and truly touch the heart at a far deeper level than the actual story.

Thank you for writing. Please continue to do so!

James E. – You are an inspiration

I want to share something about your workshop here in Vancouver.  (My daughter) Emily has been social networking on a website called “Howrse” which can be accessed from anywhere in the world and she has chatted with girls from the UK to Australia and all over the US.  But Maggie was the one that she had the most in common with and she turned out to be from Portland, Oregon which is just across the columbia river.
Their topics of conversation included the Lord of the Rings movies, your books, writing stories and poetry and various others.  It was Maggie who told Emily about your workshop.  These two had never met in person before that night and we set up a meeting nearby the Lifepoint Church a half hour before you were scheduled to begin your lecture.  They hit it off immediately and talked as if they had been friends for years.
When we went over to check out the meeting room, Emily got anxious and had me take her back to the car.  As she sat there, she seemed on the brink of asking me to take her home (oh me of little faith!) and missing this chance of a lifetime to hear you speak.  Later, she told me that she was looking at the cross on top of the church during this time, asking God for the strength to go in.  She also told me that she felt God giving her a spiritual kick in the rear to get out of the car and go inside when out came Maggie.
She was grinning from ear to ear…”He’s here.  I can’t believe it!”  (Meaning you of course).  That broke the ice for good and in we went.  As we were walking across the room to find seats, Emily even raised her hand in response to a question from you and volunteered some input!  Wow, I was so excited.  She continued to interact with you throughout the evening from time to time and it was a wonderful experience for me as we have not been in any social situation having fun for a couple of years.
So Thank you Bryan for coming to Vancouver and for giving of yourself so selflessly even though you were running on empty that night.  I can tell you that it meant the world for Emily and I to be with you and Amanda and it was a MAJOR turning point for her.
Since that night, Em has been making steady progress and it feels like we are getting our family back.
God bless you and the work that you are doing.  You are an inspiration to Emily and Myself as well.  Keep those books coming.

Michael H. – Important godly values

My name is Michael. I’m 14. I live in Montreal. I was first introduced to your book Raising Dragons a couple of years ago, when I got it for my birthday. I now own all 8 books from DIOM and Oracles of Fire. A few days ago I found out you had released another book in the series. I bought it yesterday and stayed up till 3 this morning just to make sure I finished it. You write extremely good books. They are my favorite books to read besides Narnia, Lord of the Rings, and of course the Bible. IN your books, I have found adventure, suspense, drama, and most important of all, a pattern of God’s hand at work and how he blesses and protects those who love and trust him as well as many other important Godly values. Your books have really helped build me up in my faith. Thank you for all your hard work poured into these books.

Your brother in Christ,
Michael H.

Grant M. – Influenced me as a person

It was December 25, 2005. I was twelve, and Christmas was undoubtedly the most fun day of the year. At that age, presents are obviously the reason most children look forward to the holidays. I had spent the whole morning opening a pile of gift-wrapped items and examining their contents with pure delight.

However, it was not until after my grandparents arrived and I had opened their presents that anything of lasting influence was gained. I grabbed a small rectangular box and began tearing at its wrapping. Inside the box, I saw, with an initial thought of disappointment, a book, Raising Dragons by Bryan Davis. Great, I thought, some weird book grandma bought me; I’m never going to read this. However, curiosity led me pick the book up, and, going against every fiber in a 12-year-old boy’s body, I began to read.

Mr. Davis’ writing captivated me. I do not quite understand how it happened, especially considering I had never picked up a book to read outside of school before this, but I could not stop reading. Much to my delight, I discovered that Raising Dragons was book one of a four-part, Christian, Sci-Fi series, Dragons in Our Midst.

Soon after, I had read all four books and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the next series by Mr. Davis, a prequel to this one. Since that day, I have read through all nine books in the series ten times. In his books, Bryan Davis teaches life lessons that I have kept with me to this day. Lessons like standing up for what you believe in, how to be a proper gentleman, or the importance of friends and family. In an especially challenging age for young boys, I had these books and Mr. Davis to turn to.

Before his seventh installment came out, I joined his Internet forum and began interacting directly with him and his other readers. Of course, we discussed the story and what might happen next, but we also discussed important life events and how God would want us to live. I even emailed him directly when I was 15 and was chosen to write a review for his eighth book that is published on the inside cover. Bryan Davis and his writings have influenced me as a person, as a writer, and as a Christian. He is responsible for my relatively newfound interest in reading, which has lead to the diverse, cluttered bookshelf in my bedroom.

Before that Christmas, I would rather have done almost anything to avoid reading, but now, I find myself spending a lot of time in my bed with my lamp on perusing the pages of yet another novel. It has allowed me to view stories differently, to look for meaning within novels. There are few people who have had big impacts on my life, but even fewer can match the influence that Bryan Davis has had since my grandmother gave me a book that one Christmas.

Thanks for everything,

Anonymous – Best books I’ve ever read

Mr Davis I cannot begin to describe how much i love your books! The dragon series have truly inspired me beyond measure, they are the best books I’ve ever read, hands down. I always felt like i was in the story, and i love, love, love the relationship between Billy and Bonnie. I read Song of the Ovulum (finished yesterday) and i am so excited to see what’s next! I wish you would write 50 more books in this series 🙂

Kirsten A. – A master in the art of story-telling

Hi! My name is Kirsten , and I’m a senior in high school. I just wanted to write and tell you how terrifically galumptious your books are! I think it’s amazing that you can write such perfectly-spun tales of fantasy and inspiration!
So far, I’ve only read the “Dragons in Our Midst” and “Oracles of Fire” series, but I’m expecting my copy of “Song of the Ovulum” any day now. I’ve had a fascination with dragons since I was little, and when I first read “Raising Dragons” when I was eleven, I was hooked! It’s incredible to me how you can mix dragons, whom many people still consider evil, or at least bad, with Christianity, and have it come out so wonderfully! Truly, Mr. Davis, you are a master in the art of story-telling.

Beebs R. – A Spectacular Read

WOW, again! Every one of your books never fails to amaze me. I just finished reading Diviner, and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Your characters-especially the girls-are always such inspiriations to me. I really liked the part when Koren was in Exodus and telling Elyssa that she needed to ‘release the whip’, because I do the same thing Elyssa does. I loved all the arguments between good and evil, and how Koren overcame her chains from Taushin. When reading your books I always find myself in this state where I’m not even reading anymore, but I’m there in the story; it’s like the words on the page come alive and transform into the characters and scenery. It seems like a Starlighter is telling me the tale! It’s wonderful! Thank you again for a spectacular read.

A reader of Song of the Ovulum (Spoilers) – Blew me away

The Song of the Ovulum blew me away. And coming from just finishing it, I can’t imagine the DioM and OoF universe without it! Digging into this spectacular world again was extremely awesome. It felt so good to read about Billy and Bonnie and the rest of the crew just like I had throughout most of my teenage life. Major nostalgia at times. Anyways onto the book.

Well, obviously, I loved it! The new characters, especially Matt and Lauren, were well developed and they really worked well. At first I was a little concerned about having Billy and Bonnie’s kids in the story but it was presented beautifully with some unexpected, but needed, surprises. I really admired the love that Matt and Lauren had for each other by the end of the story. Truly inspiring. Joran and Seleh were really intriguing as well, and I loved how their journeys were weaved in with previous stories leading up to the current time with Matt and Lauren. Joran’s progression as a character was extra special. The scene with Naamah was really powerfully and it made me love Naamah’s character even more. Zohar is totally awesome and I hope to see him and his giant friend again. All in all the new characters are awesome and the old charries are even more special. Walter and Ashley are definitely my favorite couple though!

The concepts and new ideas are as magical and fantastic as ever. The use of the lyre and the rods are incredible and imaginative. The use of song and the deep connection between the ovula is too cool. The new dragon traits are really creative as well. Lauren’s are really fascinating. I hope we’ll discover even more traits in the next books. It was good to see the inter-dimensional relationship between Earth and Second Eden fleshed out a bit. And also the relationship between the dragons/anthrozils and the rest of the world. It worked really well and helped solidify the story. The universe in these pages, and in the other books, is an imaginative feat that most all fantasy authors will never accomplish.

I realize that I am rambling, but I must talk about the ending before I am finished.

The ending was just right. For some reason Bonnie being captured again made me like her better as a character. And I don’t have much of a reason for it either. Also Ashley’s comment about her brain choking was really sweet and emotional. It is good to see her and Walter together. Mardon, again, proves to be creepy and mysteriously compliant; him showing up was a great development. The ending also answered an important question I had been wondering: What would the ultimate purpose of evil be in this new series? I mean, the merge of Heaven had failed so what would be next besides trying to kill off the draconic race? Tamiel answered this question in a chilling statement that Bonnie relayed to the others. Just the first word that he spoke to Bonnie abandonment was enough to make me shiver. Scary stuff! I am so excited for the next book! It’s going to be great!
