Top Ten Most Difficult Books to Write – #10

Top ten most difficult books for me to write:
#10 – Time Echoes (Book #1 in the Time Echoes Trilogy)
This book was originally called Beyond the Reflection’s Edge, book #1 in the Echoes from the Edge trilogy. I created the story based on a simple idea my second born son, Josiah, gave me–a trunk in a boy’s bedroom is closed, but it’s open in his mirror.

Why would this be true? Another world on the other side of the mirror? Yes, though readers know that it grew far more complex than that. It took a lot of time and effort to figure this story out.

I wanted to call this book Time Echoes from the start, but the original publisher, Zondervan, already had a new book with the word Time in it, so they wanted me to change the title. I complied, but I was never happy with the change.

When I took the publishing rights back, I rewrote the story, changing it from third person point-of-view to first person, because the entire story was from one person’s viewpoint, and I thought it would be more immersive in first person. I also changed the title back to the one I wanted.

(I hope to count this list down over the next week or so. Feel free to guess the rest of the list.)
