Published in 2006, Eye of the Oracle is a prequel to the Dragons in our Midst series, which prompts some to choose to read it first, that is, before Dragons in our Midst. If you do so, you will understand the story, but it will also give you spoilers for the Dragons in our Midst stories. I recommend that you read the four Dragons in our Midst books before this one.
This book surged to #1 in the young adult category for the Christian Booksellers Association. I am thankful for the reception it received and continues to receive.
Eye of the Oracle was, and still has been, my hardest book to write. I struggled over it and literally cried multiple times. I poured my heart into this story. It contains many of my deepest philosophical thoughts in a number of categories.
Still not knowing what an Oracle of Fire was, when I first began writing the story, I started on what is now page 206. While I wrote, a small, feminine voice entered my mind, though I don’t remember what she said.
I asked, “Who are you?”
She replied, “I am Mara.”
Then I asked, “Okay, then what are you?”
“I am an Oracle of Fire.”
“What’s an Oracle of Fire.”
“Go back and write about me, then you’ll find out.”
So I began writing about a slave girl named Mara, and she became the connecting thread for the entire five-thousand-year span of this story. During the story, she became Sapphira Adi, one of the most beloved characters I have written to date.

Mara and her journey to become Sapphira honestly inspired me so much, and she was definitely my favorite character! Thank you for writing her the way you did and tying her into your stories; from the beginning she was irreplaceable!
Wow, I got literal chills reading about how you “met” Saphira Adi! The hard work and tears definitely paid off, and this book is one of my favorites.
