The Author’s Chair Blog – One Month in Operation – Any Suggestions?

portrait of senior man with aged typewriter isolated on whiteI started this new blog one month ago today. I am pleased and excited about the participation–hundreds of comments and more than 13,000 views. Thank you.

I would like to know what you think of the content so far.

What is helpful? Maybe I could focus on an aspect more frequently.

What isn’t so helpful? Maybe I could cut down on that aspect or even eliminate it.

Is there something new you would you like to see?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

  1. I really like your blog so far. I think you have a nice balance of content, with no one type of post- writing tips, story posts, or critique posts- outweighing the others.

  2. I love the blog so far, and can’t think of anything to change at the moment 🙂

A question just came into my mind, though. Would it bother you if I wrote a short chapter/part of a chapter of a DIOM fanfiction and submitted it to your weekly critique? I don’t know if/when I would do that, since I haven’t had much time to write lately, but I thought i’d ask just in case.

  3. Only thing I can think of would be to add a forums section, so your readers could discuss whatever they like without having to have a long thread of comments on a post. I think that would be pretty cool.

  4. Yes; this blog has been great! Honestly, at this point I don’t have any suggestions; I’ve really enjoyed what you’ve done so far. Thanks so much for investing your time into this!

  5. I have really enjoy your blog.
Some of my favourite things is the writing tips; though overall, I wouldn’t change anything.

  6. I love your blog so far! Great content everyday. By far my favorite days, though, are Monday’s writing tips and Friday’s critiques!

  7. I love your blog! I really enjoy how you have an equal spread of subjects throughout the week.
As far as I know, I wouldn’t change a thing. [Though I do like kntrytnt’s idea of a forum section, because then we could discuss thoughts and ideas with you and other fellow writers. :-D]

  8. Yeah, a forum would be pretty cool. All in all, I really like this blog, and I look forward to reading the new posts. I wouldn’t change anything. However, have you ever talked about how to actually write a story, like outline and write and edit, etc? I think that would be very helpful for budding writers who have a story but don’t know how to start writing it. If you have talked about it, then I must have missed it. Still, I would like to know that.

  9. I love it and can’t think of anything I’d change. 🙂 There’s a great balance of all sorts of writerly topics, and the weekly guest posts add a fresh voice each time. I think this blog is pretty much perfect! (And I have to wonder how you have time to post every day!)

  10. I’ve really enjoyed what you’ve done so far. For me, the most beneficial aspect has been the story development series. Having an insider look into how an established author creates a story (and the reasons for various decisions) is really neat and informative, and I’ve already learned a lot. 🙂

I wouldn’t mind a Q&A session more than once a month, but I know you’re putting a lot of time into the blog already, so that might not be realistic.

    Thanks for all your work!

    • I think a Q&A would be good as well, because I have no where to ask this: Mr. Davis, do you ever start writing a story, but after thinking about it or writing for a little bit, you just don’t really like it, and you stop working on it?

  11. The blog is great! I really love everything that you, or others, are posting on here. My only suggestion is that you post more of The Scent of Her Soul 🙂 Other than that, and the forum idea that others have brought up, I can’t think of anything that you could do to improve the site, it’s that great!

  12. Ok… This isn’t really related, but I read I Know Why the Angels Dance. It was really good. It took me about two days and finished it this afternoon. I have been bawling my eyes out all day! I was literally sobbing in the middle of class. So sad! But it was really great. I loved it. It has great spiritual depth.

  13. My biggest suggestion would be to keep this going, it provides great opportunities for readers to be able to interact with you, as well as each other. It also provides a great way to share out tough topics to those that may not find it easy to discuss.
